How We Help Shape the Academic Landscape

Participation in national and international committees allows WU’s representatives to play an active role in shaping study and working conditions at universities.

Member of the EQUIS Committee

WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger was appointed to the EQUIS Committee in August 2021. The EQUIS Committee is made up of highly regarded experts who hold top-level management positions at universities and have profound experience in the field of management education. The EQUIS Committee supports and advises EFMD and the EQUIS director on the further development and implementation of the accreditation system for business schools and carries out preliminary assessments to check if universities qualify as candidates for initial accreditation.

EQUIS (the EFMD Quality Improvement System) was established in 1998 by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). EFMD is an organization dedicated to strengthening university-level teaching and research in business and economics. Universities seeking accreditation by EQUIS have to undergo a comprehensive evaluation process. WU has held EQUIS accreditation since 2007.

Employer Representative

Michael Lang, WU’s Vice-Rector for Research and Human Resources, was named the new chair of the National University Federation of Universities Austria in January 2021. This makes him the highest-ranking employer representative for Austrian universities.
