Annual Report 2019
Our Team for the Future
Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger was re-appointed for a second term in 2018. On October 1, 2019, she presented her vision for the future of our university at the official inaugural reception for the new Rector’s Council. WU’ future is characterized by digitalization, internationalization, and increasing graduation rates.
Among the Best
In recent years, WU has established itself as a top international university with excellent programs. Rankings for teaching and research show that WU can hold its own even in a highly competitive environment. The performance of WU’s teachers and researchers is consistently excellent, as confirmed
by the numerous national and international awards they won.
WU is a responsible university. This means that we as an institution act in a socially responsible manner in everything we do. Some of our activities in this area were honored with awards in 2019.
Let’s Talk
In an era characterized by fake news and disinformation campaigns, it is becoming more and more important to provide scientifically sound facts to all members of society. We are proud to do so with great commitment at our public events. Meetings and conferences keep the lines of communication between research and practice open, and are well received by attendees.
From Sustainability to Responsibility
As a responsible university, we strive to act in an economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable manner. Our research findings and the actions of our graduates give us a voice in society’s discourse on sustainability.
We are well aware that our reputation as a university depends to a large extent on our faculty and staff. It’s important to us to provide them with an environment that allows them to do their best work.
High-Quality Programs
WU has a reputation for high quality. This is confirmed not only by our international accreditations from EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA and our excellent performance in international rankings, but also by the fact that our programs are in very high demand with potential students.
The WU Executive Academy is a leading provider of management education for executives and high-potential employees from Austria and Central and Eastern Europe.
100 Years of Research at WU
In 1919, the Imperial Export Academy became the University of World Trade, laying the foundations for WU’s future research. A lot has changed since then. What has stayed is a nose for new developments and the motivation to analyze them. The work published by WU’s researchers impacts not only the international scientific community but also the public, and makes an important contribution to social development.
Building International Networks
Broader horizons, increased potential for innovation, and new perspectives are just a few of the reasons why it pays to go abroad – for students, teachers, and administrative staff. WU is an active member in a number of university networks. They allow us to learn from other universities and give us the opportunity to pass on our knowledge to them.
The Best Service for Alumni and Sponsors
WU has a very active alumni community. We keep them up to date on developments at their alma mater on a regular basis, and help them build up alumni networks in Austria and worldwide.
We offer sponsors a wide variety of opportunities to support the university and its students, including funding scholarships, sponsoring rooms and auditoriums on campus, and appearing at WU events.
