Access to Jobs
Many students are interested in internships and part-time jobs, keeping the demand for qualified internships and part-time work suitable for students high. One of the WU ZBP Career Center’s main responsibilities is to inform students of available positions and to make sure advertised jobs meet specific quality criteria (duration, weekly working hours, relevance to and compatibility with academic programs, payment).
In 2017, two initiatives aimed at business law and information systems students were introduced: The business law JUSPLUS Internship Exchange service and the BIS Internship Program. These compact programs for coordinating internships during semester breaks was developed in cooperation with the respective bachelor’s and master’s programs and specializations. The goal of the initiatives is to make it easier for students to gain practical work experience while still progressing rapidly in their studies.
The JUSPLUS Internship Exchange service placed 85 law students as interns in legal practices, and the BIS Internship Program successfully placed 16 students in internships.
Making Contact
The second main focus of the Career Center is connecting students with potential employers. The Career Center invites companies to attend career events, workshops, and networking evenings at WU on a regular basis. Events like internship days, “Career Insights,” the recruiting fair “Meet Your Job,” and highlights like “Career Calling” and the late-night career event “Long Night of Companies” give students and potential employers the opportunity to make first contacts and discuss entry-level positions.

Career Calling
WU has a special relationship with Career Calling, Austria’s largest job fair, in two ways: For one thing, it’s held at the Messe Wien trade fair center which is right next door to Campus WU. But more importantly, the fair was established by WU’s own ZBP Career Center 30 years ago. Since then, the Career Center has organized the Career Calling fair every fall, and it has become a key event for Austria’s human resource community. While still organized and run mainly by the WU ZBP Career Center, Career Calling is now a cooperation between WU, TU Wien (TUW), and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).
The 31st annual Career Calling job fair opened its doors on October 18, 2017, and welcomed students, graduates, and young professionals as well as representatives of national and international employers. 1,142 companies were represented in 2017, 5,334 visitors filled the trade fair center, and 900 job opportunities were offered.
