Setting a Course for the Future

A future-oriented university needs to continuously improve and expand its program portfolio. Activities in 2017 included the development of a completely new bachelor’s program, comprehensive revision of one of our master’s programs, and the launch of a new business administration specialization.

Business and Economics in a Global Context

WU’s First English-taught Bachelor’s Program

Business and economics have always been closely related to international exchange. The previous names of our university, like “Export Academy” and “University of World Trade,” show clearly that WU has always taught business and economics in an international context. We have belonged to global networks for many years, giving our students the opportunity to study abroad and experience international academic environments. And at home on our own campus, we offer seven master’s programs and numerous courses taught entirely in English.

Keeping in line with our rigorous internationalization strategy, WU began developing an English-language bachelor’s program in in 2017. The program is aimed at international students, who will graduate with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary grasp of business and economics in a global context. The first 120 students will be enrolling in the program in the fall of 2018.

“WU is an innovative and open-minded university with an international atmosphere and a positive attitude towards our international students, who hail from over 110 different countries around the world. The establishment of a bachelor’s program taught in English was the logical next step in our internationalization process.”
Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, Rector

Master’s Program in Economics

The Master’s Program in Economics was overhauled in 2017 and will be taught entirely in English starting in the fall of 2018. The program is international in character, and students can choose between two majors, based on their individual interests. One major is more science oriented, while the other focuses more strongly on applied economics.

Problem-solving Made Easy

WU’s bachelor’s students can choose from a wide selection of specializations as an ideal preparation for their future careers. Our newest business administration specialization, “Strategy and Data,” is aimed at students who want to acquire the analytical skills needed to support companies in their strategic decision-making processes.
