High Standards

Outstanding ranking results and awards for teaching, research, and social commitment are visible proof of WU’s excellence.

When in the market for a good school or the right master’s program, many potential students turn to university rankings. For the universities themselves, the comparison with other schools can be helpful when reviewing their own performance. It goes without saying, then, that we are particularly proud that the high quality of teaching and research at WU is confirmed not only by its extremely rare triple accreditation – only about 1% of all universities worldwide can claim accreditation by all three of the most renowned accreditation agencies EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA – but also by excellent results in international rankings and numerous awards presented to WU faculty.

Award-winning Master’s Programs

For graduates, WU’s master’s programs are launching pads for positions of responsibility in management and international careers in academia and business. In addition to comprehensive expertise, we make sure our students leave WU with the analytical and critical thinking skills they will need to understand complex problems in business, the economy, and society, and to develop the strategies to solve them.

In 2017, two of WU’s master’s programs participated in international rankings:

The Master in International Management program prepares students around the world for a career in multinational, multicultural organizations. How well it succeeds at this is reflected in the program’s top places in renowned international rankings:

  • Financial Times Global Masters in Management Ranking: 13th place worldwide (1st place for CEE)
  • QS World University Rankings: Business Masters Ranking: 17th place worldwide (1st place for CEE)

Students interested in a successful career in international finance find everything they need to achieve this goal in WU’s Quantitative Finance master’s program. The QS Masters in Finance Ranking puts the Quantitative Finance program in 22nd place, ahead of renowned institutions like  New York University (Stern) and the University of St. Gallen. For the CEE region, the program ranks in 1st place.

Internationality, Diversity, Job opportunities

The QS World University Rankings gave WU top marks in three areas.

WU graduates are very well prepared for the demands of the job market: 95% find a job within three months of graduation. A survey of recent graduates indicates a high level of satisfaction with the education they received at WU.

WU has always been internationally oriented and encourages both student and faculty mobility. And it shows: WU’s students work together with fellow students from many different countries and learn from teachers from around the world. WU’s large portfolio of foreign language courses gives students the tools they need for an international career.

We are also pleased that QS recognized WU’s diversity as an asset. At WU, students find themselves in an atmosphere characterized by a balanced gender ratio and a high percentage of international students.

“We are very pleased with these ranking results. They demonstrate clearly that WU has an excellent reputation worldwide, both in academia and the business community, and that graduates of our master’s programs can hold their own in international competition.”
Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, Rector

Among Europe’s Best

Every year, the Financial Times complies a list of Europe’s best business schools. 95 universities were included in the 2017 ranking, and WU came in at 44th place. This puts WU at 6th place in the German-speaking countries, and makes it the best of its kind in the CEE region. In this ranking, students’ international experience and graduates’ salaries were aspects that were especially in WU’s favor.
