Top-Quality Continuing Education

Digitalization is causing major changes to all areas of society. The expiration dates on knowledge are getting shorter and shorter, and lifelong learning is key. As an innovative and practically oriented institution for continuing education, the WU Executive Academy reacts quickly to trends and develops suitable and timely programs.

Record-breaking Class: University Certificate Program in Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Interest in the WU Executive Academy’s Logistics & Supply Chain Management university certificate program, which was launched in 2014, continues unabated and reached a new high in 2018 with 43 students. Classes in the university certificate programs Tourism & Event Management and Marketing & Sales were also fully booked.

The part-time BBA program “Akademische/r Diplom BetriebswirtIn” has established itself on the market and is very well received. After completing a sector-specific preliminary phase (e.g. certificate programs at WU), participants acquire well-founded knowledge and skills in the core areas of general management, marketing, integrated market and corporate communication, and sales management.

New Programs

Public Procurement Excellence (in cooperation with the European Commission)

In September 2018, the WU Executive Academy and the public procurement agency Bundesbeschaffung GmbH (BBG) teamed up to offer an innovative English-language program for employees in the field of public procurement in EU member states and COSME countries. The European Commission covers participants’ tuition fees. The Commission hopes to save up to 20 billion euros annually through greater efficiency and a more professional system for awarding contracts.

“I am convinced that this program will continue to attract experts from all over Europe because it is effective and covers all the most important topics – from contract management to strategic communication and the drafting of framework contracts. By participating in this program, everyone can contribute to improving the procurement processes in individual EU member states and to making these processes more strategic and SME-oriented.”
Irmfried Schwimann, Deputy Director General, DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) of the European Commission

Short Programs for Start-ups and Corporate Partners

Technology scouting errors, too little innovative power, problems working together with start-ups – the new English-taught short program “Strategy in the Age of Disruption,” offered by the WU Executive Academy in cooperation with the start-up platform Pioneers, provides companies with optimal, future-oriented solutions to these important issues. The program is scheduled to launch in April 2019.

“Many established companies know that they need to be innovative. But when it comes to partnerships with start-ups, implementation challenges abound. This program illustrates various models and approaches for cooperation and discusses the goals, structures, and conditions that are necessary for a partnership to be successful for both sides.”
Phillip Nell, Institute for International Business, academic director of the program

Corporate Programs

In addition to the MBA/Master of Laws programs, the BBA degree program “Diplom BetriebswirtInWU,” and the university certificate programs, the development of corporate programs is another of the WU Executive Academy’s main activities.

The Academy keeps its finger on the pulse of the times and focuses on the topics that companies need to master today’s challenges. Key areas include innovation, leadership, and strategy, currently combined with digitalization aspects.

In 2018, tailor-made corporate programs were developed for the following partners, among others: Porsche Holding; Raiffeisenbank International; Erste Group Bank; Unicredit; Sparkassen; HDI Österreich; Fonds Soziales Wien; Talanx AG; OeNb; the Financial Market Authority; Federal Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, Reforms, Deregulation and Justice; Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology; Schönherr Attorneys at Law; Österreichische Post AG; Berndorf AG; Stora Enso; Civ Life, and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Community Involvement

The WU Executive Academy’s activities in the field of community involvement were further expanded and internationalized in 2018. The aim of these efforts is to provide our students and graduates with the best possible support in their professional and personal development.

This year, programs again focused on the 3 Cs: career, content, and community. The WU Executive Academy community currently includes almost 4,000 members from 85 countries: highly qualified and well-educated managers, executives, and experts who meet regularly to exchange thoughts and ideas at over 40 events, continuing education programs, and networking events every year. In 2018, additional emphasis was placed on virtual networking: The exclusive online community platform WU EA Connect was updated and improved to help students and alumni network among each other.

“In the offline world, we have been connecting our students with our career partners – selected companies from the private sector and executive search partners – through events, company visits, and social events for years. We have now added a virtual component to this career-boosting network. Members can integrate their existing Facebook or LinkedIn profile into WU EA Connect, making them even more visible for potential employers. The feedback is very positive and shows us that this initiative offers real added value for everyone involved.”
